WINTER BREAK SHUTDOWN REMINDER; E-Inside; December 6, 2017

Before you leave for winter break, do not forget to “Unplug, Shutdown and Set Back!” Kent State employees can help conserve energy during winter break.

As the semester comes to a close, please join your colleagues in reducing campus energy consumption over winter break. Thanks to our collective efforts over the 2016 holiday break, the university avoided more than $30,000 in energy costs over 11 days. The carbon dioxide emission reduction was equal to more than the electricity use for 80 homes in one year.

Before leaving campus, turn off and unplug all computers and other electronics, including power strips. Keep in mind that most electronics will still draw energy as long as they are plugged in, even if they are turned off. Also, close windows and shades, and report any maintenance items that come to your attention. If you have access to a thermostat, please set it back to 68 degrees. Finally, as you leave, please check that lights are turned off.

As in previous years, University Facilities Management will contribute to the energy conservation effort by setting back some building systems. By working together, we will reduce costs of heating, ventilation, lighting and plug loads on campus during the holiday schedule.
