Freshman Convocation Ceremony

The Freshman class of 2023 entered Kent State University at a historic time; the 50th commemoration of the events of May 4, 1970. Each freshman was required to read two books about the events of May 4, 1970, and discuss them in their First-Year Experience (FYE) Class.

On their first day as a student, the Freshman Convocation ceremony welcomed the students and provided them the opportunity to hear from both President Todd Diacon and May 4, 1970 survivor, Chic Canfora. Both President Diacon and Chic Canfora touched on the events of May 4 and the 50th commemoration during their speeches.
