The College of the Arts is proud to continue the acclaimed Thomas Schroth Visiting Artist Series with virtual presentations this spring dedicated to the College's commitment to celebrating diversity within the Arts.
The next guest speaker of this year's series is fashion and costume designer and founder of Keama, L.L.C. Keama Garrett.
Garrett will give a presentation and take questions on Thursday, February 4, 2021 from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. Admission to the event is FREE, however reservations are required.

About Keama Garrett
Keama Garrett, Founder, Keama, LLC is from Westerville, OH. She graduated from Kent State University (KSU) with a B.A. in Fashion Design. Keama enriched her studies in design by working for the Theatre Costume Shoppe and the Kent State University Fashion Museum. Keama participated in the New York Studio and interned under James Coviello who designed/created everything from Anna Sui knits to designing bridal wear for Anthropologie’s Bhldn label. She stayed in New York, after the semester and worked for the illustrious Dance Theatre in Harlem, combining her love for costume, fashion, and dance. After college, Keama became immersed in the Fashion Industry and served in multiple capacity while gaining invaluable knowledge and experience. She worked as an Assistant Designer for Cable and Gauge Women’s sportswear company, where she acquired a strong foundation of designing and sourcing fabric. Next, she worked as an Assistant Designer for Adriana Papel, a women’s wear evening designer. Eventually, she branched out to be a Colorist for Eileen Fisher and the New York and Company. As a Colorist, she communicated to manufacturers while working with the Design teams to select color stories through women’s cut and sew and sweater divisions. As she worked full time for other brands, Keama worked to grow her brand/business. In 2020, Keama transitioned to working full time for her brand.
About the Thomas Schroth Visiting Artist Series
Since 2001, the Thomas Schroth Visiting Artist Series has presented guest artists respected in the field of theatre, dance, visual arts, music and architecture including such noted artists as Tony award-winners Stephen Schwartz, the composer of "Wicked," "Into the Woods" and more; "Next to Normal" actress Alice Ripley; the Grammy-winning Emerson String Quartet; postmodern minimalist artist Richard Tuttle; artists and fashion designers Ruben and Isabel Toledo; the internationally acclaimed dance company, Ballet Florida; and actor, dancer and arts advocate Ben Vereen and the Limon Dance Group, just to name a few.
The Schroth series was established by Cecile Draime and her late husband, Max, of Warren, Ohio, to honor their dear friend Thomas Schroth (1922-1997). A noted regional architect, Schroth designed the Butler Institute of Art’s Trumbull museum in Howland, as well as numerous other award-winning projects. Thomas Schroth spent his life in Niles, Ohio, as a prominent architect and inveterate collaborator in the artistic life of the Mahoning Valley and Northeast Ohio. A world traveler, he saw human creativity as a window framing human experience. The Thomas Schroth Visiting Artist Series brings diverse views through that window to the Kent campus and community.
