The time has finally arrived...
Your student is headed to Kent State as a newly minted Golden Flash. Your years of preparing for this moment have finally paid off, and as parents and families, you’re probably asking, "What's next for my student?"
Research shows that the first six weeks of college may directly determine whether a student successfully graduates. To ensure your student's success, over the next several weeks, activities and events will be held throughout campus to get your student acclimated to their new home, meet new people and get involved.
Here are some highlighted events:
MOVE-IN – Aug. 19-20
Move-in for first-year students will take place on Wednesday, Aug.19 and Thursday, Aug. 20. You can learn more about move-in on our webpage here.
For families on campus Thursday, Aug. 20, join the Office of Parents and Families Engagement for Kisses from Home. Stop by the Pepsi Leadership Lounge located on the second floor of the Student Center to write a heartfelt postcard to your college student. While you’re crafting your note, enjoy some sweet treats and soak in the joy of creating a surprise that’s sure to brighten your student’s day!
KSU KICKOFF – Aug. 20-23
KSU Kickoff is a multi-day pre-semester celebration and takes place after residence hall move-in. During kickoff, students can expect to participate in several engaging experiences, including:

BLASTOFF – Sunday, Aug. 23
Wrapping up KSU Kickoff Week is Blastoff, our biggest campus celebration. Students will enjoy delicious food, free Kent State gear and the chance to connect with students from 350+ student organizations.
STUDENT EMPLOYMENT FAIR – Friday, Aug. 28
Is your student looking for a job this fall? Career Exploration and Development will host its annual Student Employment Fair on Friday, Aug. 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Kent Student Center in room 218. Students will learn about on-campus and local off-campus student job opportunities, meet and establish connections with employers, receive a FREE professional headshot, and more! Registration for the fair is highly encouraged.
BLACK SQUIRREL FESTIVAL – Friday, Sept. 25
A Kent State University tradition, the annual Black Squirrel Festival will take place on Friday, Sept. 25, during Parents and Families Weekend. The Black Squirrel Festival is a can't-miss event with food, music, vendors and more! Black Squirrel Festival is a great opportunity for students to learn more about the Kent community, and another perfect opportunity to branch out and make new friends.
