This fund will enable Kent State University (its Colleges, Departments, Institutes, and Initiatives) to host scientists, scholars, and students from Ukraine on a temporary basis to continue their work and research as part of an International Visitor (Visiting Scholar) program. This fund was established thanks to equally generous gifts by Elda & Torsten Hegmann as well as John West & Cevin West Cole.

Background and Motivation

The invasion of Ukraine has led to one of the largest refugee crises since WWII. The international scientific and academic community is being called upon to play a role to save lives, preserve scientific knowledge and scholarly pursuits, and assist Ukrainian scientists, scholars, and students during this unprecedented and difficult time. As scientists we cherish strong international ties and exchange. Thus, we initiated this fund to support scientists, scholars, and students from Ukraine so they can continue their pursuit of scholarly activities together with Kent State University faculty. Support via this fund will help sustain collaboration by covering research costs and other necessary support. Visa applications will be expedited, whenever possible, with separate generous support from Kent State University’s College of Arts and Sciences.
