The Training & Development team appreciates your input as we continue to improve the orientation and onboarding process. Because of your feedback so far, we are again changing the day and time of orientations so that they best fit the schedule of as many employees as possible.
Coming January 2024
Orientations will continue to alternate between virtual and in-person sessions. This has allowed us to be flexible with regional campus new hires and second- and third-shift employees.
Beginning January 2024, we will return to morning sessions, which we have learned is the optimal orientation time. We will also host orientations on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This means that if your new hire starts the Monday of orientation week, they will have an entire day with your unit to get set up and acclimated. The new orientation schedule will be:
- New Hire Orientation - Welcome to Kent State: Bi-weekly on Tuesdays from 8 -11 a.m.
- New Hire Benefits Information: Bi-weekly on Wednesdays from 8 -11 a.m.
Tips & Tricks for Onboarding
With sessions now falling on Tuesday and Wednesday, you'll have plenty of time to onboard your new hire with the basics before they attend orientation. We recommend the following items for their first day:
- Get their Flashcard
- Get their parking tag
- Get FlashLine set up
- Get all IT (if needed) set up
- Give them any needed tools/uniforms
- Introduce them to other team members
- Give them a tour of the building they'll be working in, including entrances and parking lots
- Review time sheet recording
