Letter from the interim Dean of Students

Dear Parents & Families —

In place of our traditional newsletter, our Parent & Family Engagement team felt it was important to share insights about the pandemic that could be useful at this time. While the university continues to provide updates that are helpful as we navigate these changes, we took things a step further by asking members of our Kent State family to write articles exclusively for this newsletter. We have posted the content to this web page, as a companion piece to the email.

We are hopeful that you will find the information both engaging and insightful. To the parents who have students graduating, congratulations to them and we wish them nothing but the best! To our parents of returning students, we look forward to continually providing information and updates through our Facebook group and these newsletters. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out and email us at kentparents@kent.edu.

Sincerely,

"Life is 10% of what happens to you, and 90%” how you react to it." This is a quote from one of my favorite poems, “Attitude” by Charles Swindoll. For the last month, the social distancing rule has been a hot topic around the world and has prompted me to appreciate those words by Swindoll even more.

I can’t count how many times I have said “we just don’t know yet” in interviews while discussing the emergence of SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus responsible for causing COVID-19.

A Note from One Stop Student Services

We realize that your family’s financial circumstances may have been impacted as a result of COVID-19 (eg. loss of income). These changes may have an effect on your 2020-2021 Financial Aid Offer (Summer Semester 2020, Fall Semester 2020, Spring Semester 2021). In light of this, we encourage you to consider submitting a Special Circumstance Application. The purpose of a Special Circumstance Application is to review the information previously submitted on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) since it is no longer an accurate representation of the family's current financial situation. If you have a special circumstance for the current year, visit our website for more information. If you have questions, please contact your regional campus or the One Stop for Student Services (330-672-6000).
