Yesterday marked the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month. Nationally, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The theme for Hispanic Heritage Month 2024 is ¡Viva la Gente Que Lucha! roughly meaning “Long Live the People Who Fight.”

As part of our employee wellness initiative, the Employee Wellness team is pleased to sponsor on-site 3D mammography screenings for our eligible employees. In partnership with Women’s Diagnostic Center (WDC), we offer annual routine digital mammograms on-site in April and October of every year. Staff Council represents the interest of all classified and unclassified staff across all campuses. Members advocate on a variety of issues, while serving in an advisory role to the President of the university and the President’s Cabinet. Ready to make a difference? Kent State Employee Resource Group, Latino Networking Caucus (LNC), is holding executive board elections this fall. LNC is a group comprised of students, faculty and staff who have an affiliation or interest in the Latino culture, that serves as a common resource and collaborative advocate for the campus administration. Open positions include Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. Nominations are due this Friday, Sept. 20. Voting will take place Sept. 23-27.

The Jewish Faculty, Staff and Friends Association (JFSFA), a Kent State Employee Resource Group, is pleased to announce guest lecturer Professor Doron Kalir, to present Sept. 23. In collaboration with KSU Hillel and Students Supporting Israel, and thanks to a generous grant from the Academic Engagement Network, this event is open to all.
