The Senior Guest Program at Kent State University allows Ohio residents age 60 years and older to attend regular university on-campus classes tuition-free on a space-available basis.

This registration is for courses at the Kent campus only.

Coming to the Help Day?

  • Bring proof of age (including driver's license or State ID). Senior guests must be 60 years of age or older and have been a resident of Ohio for at least the last 12 months.
  • Determine what classes you want to take prior to the in-person registration. See the Schedule of Classes for a list of courses. 

Next Steps:

Once you have completed the registration form, the Office of Continuing and Distance Education will make the request to the instructor for your admittance into a class. You should not contact the instructor directly

If approved by the instructor, Senior Guests will be notified via email of their permission to attend the course(s) they have selected.

Distance Learning & Material Fees

Pay for Senior Guest Distance Learning & Material Fees

Senior Guests are responsible for the payment of all course fees covering materials and supplies, as well as, the $12 per credit hour distance learning fee assessed for all online courses. Senior Guests are also responsible for the purchase of books. 

Fees are base fees, special fees and distance learning fees ($12.00 per credit hour). 

In order to determine whether your selected course(s) requires a fee, visit the Schedule of Classes. Once you have located your course, click on the dollar sign icon. See the image below for additional guidance.

If your course does not require a distance learning or materials fee, no further action is required. 

If your course does require a distance learning or materials fee, please pay here. Enter the required course fee amount and pay using your credit card. Accepted forms of payment include American Express, Diners Club, Discover, MasterCard, Visa, and electronic check. Please be advised that there is a convenience fee of 2.99% for credit card transactions. The Office of Continuing and Distance Education will also accept a personal check.

Please note: If you are not granted permission to enroll in your selected course, distance learning and material fees will be refunded if using a credit card. 

Program Policies & Guidelines
  • Admission to courses is by faculty approval only. OCDE will contact the faculty member and notify you about whether your course request has been approved or denied.
  • OCDE will submit course requests as soon as possible. However, we cannot guarantee admission by the start of classes. A variety of unavoidable factors may result in Senior Guests beginning a course as late as a week after the official start date.
  • Remember that courses are first and foremost intended to serve the needs of the students who are enrolled for credit. Therefore, we ask that Senior Guests not engage in behaviors that are troublesome or inappropriate. 
  • Senior Guests may select up to two (2) courses and one (1) alternate.

Parking on the Kent Campus

Senior Guests are responsible for purchasing their parking permits through Parking Services. Parking in any lot on campus requires a parking permit.

  • Contact Parking Services at 330-672-4432 for parking fees.
  • Parking Services is located in the Schwartz Center, room 123 first floor, 800 E Summit.
  • Office hours are 7:30 am – 4:30 pm Mon-Fri.

If you have a Golden Buckeye card, you may park free for two hours in the Student Center parking lot ONLY.

Handicap parking does require a parking permit for all lots. 

Senior Guests may ride the Campus Bus free of charge on the campus. There is a nominal charge for use of the off-campus buses.
