New Education Abroad Scholarships

The Office of Global Education has a variety of new scholarships for Education Abroad for the 2023-2024 academic year! Click the terms below to see what scholarships are available for your education abroad program. 

Scholarships for All Terms

OGE EDUCATION ABROAD SCHOLARSHIP

The purpose of the Education Abroad General Scholarship is to help students who are in need to finance their education abroad programs. Possible award amounts include $500, $1,000, and $1,500. In order to apply for this scholarship, students must be in a Kent State sponsored education abroad program, must use the funds toward their education abroad expenses and must meet the eligibility requirements described below:

  • Must have a FAFSA on file.

  • Must have demonstrated financial need as determined by the FAFSA.

  • Must be a current Kent State degree-seeking student.

  • Must have a 2.0 cumulative or better GPA.

Project Passport Fund

The purpose of the fund is to help students who are in need of financial assistance to obtain a U.S. passport. In order to apply for this scholarship, students must be enrolled in a Kent State sponsored education abroad program and must meet the eligibility requirements described below:

  • Must have a FAFSA on file

  • Must be enrolled in a KSU sponsored education abroad program

  • Current Kent State degree-seeking student

GILMAN APPLICATION INCENTIVE SCHOLARSHIP

The Office of Global Education is now offering a $2,000 Gilman Application Incentive Scholarship to students who complete an application for the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

The goal of the scholarship is to guarantee that students who apply to Gilman will receive at least $2,000 toward their education abroad program and to help students have the strongest Gilman Scholarship application possible. To receive this scholarship, students must meet the eligibility requirements described below:

  • Must be a US citizen or national.

  • Must receive a Federal Pell Grant during the time of application and during their education abroad program. 

  • Must be a Kent State degree-seeking undergraduate student in good academic standing.

  • Must complete the following by March 1, 2024:

    • Apply or be accepted to a credit-bearing, Kent-State-sponsored education abroad program or express their intent to do so to an Education Abroad Advisor if the application is not yet open. The program must be in a country or location with an overall Travel Advisory Level 1 or 2, according to the U.S. Department of State’s Travel Advisory System. Students can apply for an education abroad program on our Program Database.

      • If awarded, students must use the funding toward a program that is within the applicable Gilman Scholarship cycle terms. The applicable terms for the March 2024 application cycle are Summer 2024, Fall 2024, Academic Year 2024-2025, Winter Break 2025, Spring 2025, Spring Break 2025.

    • Meet with an Education Abroad Advisor to discuss their Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship application before submitting it. Students must submit their essays to their Education Abroad Advisor at least 3 business days before their scheduled appointment. During the appointment students will receive constructive feedback on their essays and can ask questions about the application. Virtual and in-person appointments can be made via KSU Advising (group name: Education Abroad).

    • Meet with the Financial Aid Counselor for Education Abroad at the Kent Campus to understand their financial aid and scholarship package before submitting their Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship application. Virtual appointments can be made via KSU Advising (group name: Education Abroad). Walk-in hours are available during Fall 2023 at the Office of Global Education on Wednesdays from 1-3pm. 

  • Must submit a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship application within the appropriate timeframe for their education abroad program. Applications for this cycle of the Gilman scholarship are due on March 7, 2024 at 11:59pm Pacific Time.

Students can only receive this scholarship once within their academic career at Kent State. Students who do not receive the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship during this cycle may be able to apply again for the October 2024 cycle (encompassing programs that take place during Winter Break 2025, Spring 2025, Spring Break 2025, Summer 2025, Fall 2025, and Academic Year 2025-2026).

 

Summer 2024 Scholarships

EXCHANGE PROGRAMS SCHOLARSHIP

There are scholarships in various amounts available to a select number of students who meet the eligibility requirements described below:

  • Must have a FAFSA on file.

  • Must be a degree-seeking Kent State student.

  • Must apply, be accepted, and commit to participate in one of the following exchange programs.

FACULTY-LED: Down Under: Ecology and Evolution in Australia

A $1,500 scholarship is available to the first 10 students who commit to the Faculty-Led: Down Under: Ecology and Evolution in Australia program. In order to receive this scholarship, students must meet the eligibility requirements described below:

  • Must have a FAFSA on file by December 1, 2023.

  • Must be a degree-seeking Kent State student.

  • Must be one of the first 10 students to commit (accept your acceptance through the application portal) to the education abroad program.

FACULTY-LED: Journey to Japan: Past and Present

A $1,500 scholarship is available to the first 10 students who commit to the Faculty-Led: Journey to Japan: Past and Present program. In order to receive this scholarship, students must meet the eligibility requirements described below:

  • Must have a FAFSA on file by December 1, 2023.

  • Must be a degree-seeking Kent State student.

  • Must be one of the first 10 students to commit (accept your acceptance through the application portal) to the education abroad program.

Faculty-Led: Crafting Immersive Stories of Lisbon

A $1,000 scholarship is available to the first 10 students who commit to the Faculty-Led: Crafting Immersive Stories of Lisbon program. In order to receive this scholarship, students must meet the eligibility requirements described below:

  • Must have a FAFSA on file by February 1, 2024

  • Must be a degree-seeking Kent State student

  • Must be one of the first 10 students to commit (accept your acceptance through the application portal) to the education abroad program

Florence Health Institute Early Commitment

A $250 scholarship is available to students who commit to the Florence Health Institute program by January 1, 2024. In order to receive this scholarship, students must meet the eligibility requirements describe below:

  • Must have a FAFSA on file

  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking Kent State student

  • Must have a 2.75 cumulative or better GPA

Florence Summer Institute Early Commitment Scholarship

A $250 scholarship is available to students who commit to the Florence Summer Institute program by January 1, 2024. In order to receive this scholarship, students must meet the eligibility requirements describe below:

  • Must have a FAFSA on file

  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking Kent State student

  • Must have a 2.5 cumulative or better GPA

Florence Summer Institute June & July Session Scholarship

A $1,000 scholarship is available to the first 15 students who commit to the Florence Summer Institute program for both the June & July session of the program. In order to receive this scholarship, students must meet the eligibility requirements describe below:

  • Must have a FAFSA on file

  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking Kent State student

  • Must have a 2.5 cumulative or better GPA

Florence Summer Institute July Session + Florence Interfaith Workshop Scholarship

A $500 scholarship is available to students who commit to both the Florence Interfaith Workshop and the July session of the Florence Summer Institute program. In order to receive this scholarship, students must meet the eligibility requirements describe below:

  • Must have a FAFSA on file

  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking Kent State student

  • Must have a 2.5 cumulative or better GPA

Hospitality and Event Management Internship in Florence Scholarship

A $1,000 scholarship is available to the first five students who commit to the Hospitality and Event Management Internship in Florence program. In order to receive this scholarship, students must meet the eligibility requirements describe below:

  • Must have a FAFSA on file

  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking Kent State student

  • Must have a 2.5 cumulative or better GPA

ISEP Direct Summer Language Program Scholarship

A $1,250 scholarship is available to the first six students who commit to an ISEP Direct Language Program. In order to receive this scholarship, students must meet the eligibility requirements described below: 

  • Must have a FAFSA on file 

  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking Kent State student 

  • Must have a 2.0 cumulative or better GPA 

ISEP Exchange Scholarship 

A $1,000 scholarship is available to the first five students who commit to any ISEP Exchange Summer Program. In order to receive this scholarship, students must meet the eligibility requirements described below: 

  • Must have a FAFSA on file 

  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking Kent State student 

  • Must have a 2.0 cumulative or better GPA 

ISEP Direct Scholarship

A $500 scholarship is available to the first two students who commit to any ISEP Direct Summer Program. In order to receive this scholarship, students must meet the eligibility requirements described below: 

  • Must have a FAFSA on file 

  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking Kent State student 

  • Must have a 2.0 cumulative or better GPA 

ISEP Latin America Scholarship

A $1,000 scholarship is available to the first five students who commit to an ISEP Summer Program located in a country in Latin America. In order to receive this scholarship, students must meet the eligibility requirements described below: 

  • Must have a FAFSA on file 

  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking Kent State student 

  • Must have a 2.0 cumulative or better GPA 

Fall 2024 Scholarships

Florence Fall 2024 Semester Early Commitment Scholarship

A $250 scholarship is available to students who commit to the Florence Fall 2024 Semester program by April 1, 2024. In order to receive this scholarship, students must meet the eligibility requirements describe below:

  • Must have a FAFSA on file
  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking Kent State student
  • Must have a 2.5 cumulative or better GPA

Exchange Programs Scholarship

There are scholarships in the amount of $2,500 available to the first 20 students who meet the eligibility requirements described below:

Kent State Geneva Internship Placement Scholarship

A $1,000 scholarship may be available to students who commit to the Kent State Geneva program and receive a placement with an internship in Geneva.  In order to receive this scholarship, students must meet the eligibility requirements described below:

  • Must have a FAFSA on file.
  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking Kent State student.
  • Must have a 3.3 cumulative or better GPA.

ISEP Exchange Scholarship

A $1,500 scholarship is available to the first six students who commit to any ISEP Exchange Semester Program. In order to receive this scholarship, students must meet the eligibility requirements described below: 

  • Must have a FAFSA on file 

  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking Kent State student 

  • Must have a 2.0 cumulative or better GPA 

ISEP Direct Scholarship

A $750 scholarship is available to the first five students who commit to any ISEP Direct Program. In order to receive this scholarship, students must meet the eligibility requirements described below: 

  • Must have a FAFSA on file

  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking Kent State student 

  • Must have a 2.0 cumulative or better GPA 

ISEP Latin America Scholarship

A $1,500 scholarship is available to the first four students who commit to an ISEP Semester Program located in a country in Latin America (ISEP Exchange and ISEP Direct are both eligible). In order to receive this scholarship, students must meet the eligibility requirements described below: 

  • Must have a FAFSA on file 

  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking Kent State student 

  • Must have a 2.0 cumulative or better GPA
