Here in Residence Services we are excited to welcome students back to on-campus living in just a few short weeks. We know this can be an exciting and stressful time for the families and friends of our residents, but the Department of Residence Services is here to help!
benefits of living on campus
Our Residence Halls are an environment that promotes safety, inclusion, and student success. Residents benefit from the opportunity to learn about other cultures and lifestyles, form lifelong friendships, and make lasting memories. Students who live in the residence halls (compared to commuting to campus) have also been shown to do better academically and are more likely to remain enrolled until they graduate. The convenience of living on campus provides students easy access to numerous campus resources such as faculty and academic advisors, the library, computer labs, residence hall dining halls and other campus eateries, the health center, recreational facilities and student organizations.
If your student would like to apply for housing at Kent State, it’s not too late! Our application remains open and can be found on our website: https://www.kent.edu/housing
If your student has already been accepted into the Residence Halls, summer is a great time to start to prepare for move-in day!
Three Tips to "prep" for move-in day
Here are some tips to make moving in a breeze!
- Decide what to pack and what to leave behind! While our rooms are all comfortable and can accommodate all of the things your student will need, keep in mind that space can be limited. Review the items that your student plans to bring to make sure that they are all approved before you pack them. When in doubt, leave the item behind. If they really need it, they can pick it up while home on a break.
- Review your move-In date and have a conversation with anyone who will be helping to make sure you have a plan for the big day.
- Encourage your student to set themselves up for success by reviewing the Hallways Handbook, doing a few trial loads of laundry and getting comfortable with a new mailing address
Until Then...
