Hannah Johnson, a ceramics M.F.A. student, has been making waves in the art community. Recent achievements include being featured in magazines, receiving a grant and presenting her work at an art fair. Hannah credits her successes to faculty members who have helped her along the way.
Fusion magazine’s Summer 2023 issue features Hannah Johnson’s work on the cover and featured her in their “Student Spotlight.” In the feature, Hannah was able to speak about her journey as an artist. Five of her works are shared within the feature as well.
“I have been very fortunate in the excellent education opportunities I have had while studying ceramics thanks to many outstanding professors and hard-working peers,” Hannah told Fusion.

Another magazine, Ceramics Monthly, selected Hannah Johnson’s piece, “Shrimp Sundae,” for the annual readership competition, “Sensorial.” The piece will be featured in the September 2023 issue.
In August 2023, Hannah Johnson received The Pottery Supply House Clay or Glass Supply Grant from Craft Ontario. As part of the grant, Hannah will be doing a virtual Artist Talk on November 2 at 7 p.m., as well as participating in the Awards Exhibition in Toronto at the Craft Ontario Gallery from October 12 to November 4.
In October, Hannah Johnson will be presenting her work at the Art Toronto Fair for the art gallery, Lalani Jennings Contemporary Art. This will be part of the new Art Toronto program, Discover. Eight galleries have been selected to present the work of emerging artists. These works will be presented from October 26 to 29.

In April 2022, Hannah graduated with distinction from the Bachelor of Craft and Design, Ceramics program at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario. Hannah is now pursuing her Masters of Fine Arts as a second year graduate student and Candidate of the Ceramics M.F.A. program at Kent State University, in Kent, Ohio. Check out her website Here.
About the School of Art Graduate Programs
The School of Art at Kent State University provides abundant opportunities for graduate students to advance their skills in all areas of visual art, offering degrees in Art Education, Art History and Studio Art. We offer the only M.F.A. program in northeast Ohio, and are the only public institution in the state to offer this breadth of studio specialties.
Students pursing an M.A. in Art Education may choose between a traditional (on-campus) degree, the 100% online degree, or a hybrid degree, with courses taken both online and on campus. In addition, an M.A.T. with an emphasis in Art Education is also offered through the College of Education, Health, and Human Services, which includes eligibility for pre-K-12 licensure in the visual arts from the State of Ohio.
M.F.A. Studio Art students may choose a concentration in Ceramics, Drawing, Glass, Painting, Jewelry/Metals/Enameling, Print Media and Photography, Sculpture and Expanded Media, or Textiles.
M.A. Art History students may specialize in geographic regions—including African, American, Asian, or European art—or historic periods—including Medieval, Renaissance, Modern, or Contemporary art.
