While living and working in Brooklyn, New York for over a decade, Shawn Powell presented solo exhibitions at 106 Green, Brooklyn, NY; Chapter, New York, NY; and Webster University, St. Louis, MO. He has been included in group exhibitions at The Fabric Workshop and Museum, PA; Nina Freudenheim Gallery, Buffalo NY; and La Esquina, Kansas City, MO; among many others. His work has been featured online in Brooklyn Magazine, Bedford and Bowery, Art F City, Hyperallergic and Forma to name a select few. He received his BFA in Painting and Art History from the Kansas City Art Institute and an MFA in Painting from Hunter College, New York, NY where he was presented with a Tony Smith Award Grant. Powell’s practice primarily consists of painting, and he has taught classes in painting, drawing, 2D design, and foundations.
