What Courses Can I Take?

The courses you choose through College Credit Plus can help you meet high school requirements, explore your interests and begin making progress toward future college goals.

Start with Level I, then move to Level II. Your first 15 credit hours come from a set list of Level I courses. After you complete them, more Level II courses become available.

Your course options also depend on:

  • course prerequisites and placement;
  • your high school graduation requirements;
  • your academic interests; and
  • course availability.

Your Kent State academic advisor and school counselor can help you choose courses that make sense for both your high school plan and your future.

Level I Courses: Your First 15 Credit Hours

Your first 15 credit hours must come from Level I courses. These courses let you explore college-level subjects, meet high school requirements and start building credits toward your future goals.

A course counts as Level I if it is:

You must also meet the prerequisites for any course you register for.

Exceptions: You may take a Level II course before finishing 15 hours if you are continuing in the same subject or you place directly into a Level II course. Qualifying AP or IB exam scores can also count toward your first 15 hours. Learn about AP credit.

Level II Courses: After Your First 15 Credit Hours

Once you complete 15 credit hours of Level I courses, you can take any Level II course, which is any course not on the Level I list. Prerequisites, placement and other course requirements still apply.

Courses Not Eligible for CCP

College Credit Plus covers a wide range of courses, but these are not eligible:

  • one-on-one private instruction courses;
  • courses with fees above the amount set by the Ohio chancellor;
  • study abroad courses;
  • physical education courses; and
  • courses graded pass/fail or satisfactory/unsatisfactory, unless the course is an internship or is graded that way for all students.
Special Programs

Qualified high school students can do real research alongside a Kent State professor through the Science Experience Internship.

A note about course content: College courses are designed for college students and may include mature subject matter or materials, including content that is graphic, explicit, violent or sexual. Course content will not be modified because a College Credit Plus student is enrolled, whether the course is taught at a Kent State campus, online or at a high school.
