Speak Out Day, April 2017
In response to serious threats of cuts to the federal funding of the bi-partisan Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Dr. Walton-Fisette and Dr. Mitchell headed to Capitol Hill to advocate for full funding to support professional development for teachers and health and physical education programs in schools. Along with more than 200 health and physical educators representing nearly 50 states, they asked lawmakers to fully fund the federal education program Title IV, Part A, Student Support and Academic Enrichment Grants, under ESSA.

Congratulations to our Physical Education faculty who were recognized for their outstanding achievements at the 2017 SHAPE America National Convention in Boston!
Dr. Walton-Fisette was named a 2017 Research Fellow of SHAPE America; Dr. Sato received the LeRoy T. Walker Young Professional Award; and Dr. Mitchell was named an NAS Fellow through the North American Society of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport & Dance Professionals.
