Join the Cleveland Foundation and the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards as we host Geraldine Brooks for a conversation about "Horse," a 2023 Anisfield-Wolf winner for fiction. It centers on a stallion that ignited U.S. horse-racing fervor before the Civil War. The event will take place at the Cleveland Police Mounted Unit Stables at
4 p.m.

Anisfield-Wolf Juror Joyce Carol Oates said “Horse” was “a truly poignant tale and very richly developed.” Juror Rita Dove called it beautifully written: “I have nothing but praise for her evocative descriptions of Black jockeys and trainers.”
