Each year the American Library Association selects student chapters who exemplify values of excellence, service and compliance while performing at a consistently high level, making a difference in the lives of their students. This year, Kent State’s ALA Student Chapter was selected as the runner-up for the award.

The Student Chapter at Kent State was reactivated in January of 2018 by recent iSchool graduate, Jacquie Kociubuk. Kociubuk says she was driven to reactivate the Chapter after feeling disconnected from her peers as a first-year online student.

“The ALA Student Chapter at Kent State provides opportunities for graduate students in the School of Information (iSchool) to become connected with the ALA and its affiliates. We host events, meetings, and programs that focus on providing networking, professional development, and community service opportunities to iSchool students,” said Kociubuk. “Since the entire iSchool is virtual, we focus on making sure everything we do is accessible to remote students.”

Kociubuk and her fellow chapter leaders have been invited to the ALA Annual Conference in Washington, DC. Kociubuk will represent the Student Chapter at Kent State in addition to Raychelle Steele, who is the incoming President, and other members of the Chapter.
