Procedure for Copyright Infringement Notices – Residence Students
First Offense
- DMCA Compliance Team emails the student informing him or her of the infringement notice, and the necessary procedures for responding to the allegations; carbon copy to General Counsel.
- DMCA Compliance Team revokes the network access of the student's account and forwards notification to residence hall support staff, who will notify the student's Residence Hall Director.
- Student will be required to:
- Remove the offending material from their computer and discontinue illegal file sharing activities.
- View materials in the DMCA Compliance Team's educational DMCA course, and successfully complete a quiz about Copyright Infringement with a score of 100%.
- Deliver a signed Compliance Verification Form to the DMCA Compliance Team, attesting that all of the requirements described above have been met.
- Contact the DMCA Compliance Team to schedule an appointment to speak to a team member.
- Remove the offending material from their computer and discontinue illegal file sharing activities.
- Upon receipt of the required materials and after meeting with the student, the DMCA Compliance Team will restore the student's network access.
Second Offense
- DMCA Compliance Team revokes the network access of the student's account and forwards notification to residence hall support staff, who will notify the student's Residence Hall Director.
- Student will be required to:
- Remove the offending material from their computer and discontinue illegal file sharing activities.
- View materials in the DMCA Compliance Team's educational DMCA course, and successfully complete a quiz about Copyright Infringement with a score of 100%.

- Required to provide a receipt from TechHelp or another reputable computer support company verifying removal of the infringing material and P2P software.
- Contact the DMCA Compliance Team to schedule an appointment to speak to a team member.
- Remove the offending material from their computer and discontinue illegal file sharing activities.
- Upon receipt of the required materials and after meeting with the student, the DMCA Compliance Team will restore the student's network access.
Third Offense (and any future offenses)
- DMCA Compliance Team revokes the network access of the student's account and forwards notification to residence hall support staff, who will notify the student's Residence Hall Director.
- Student will be required to:
- Remove the offending material from their computer and discontinue illegal file sharing activities.
- View materials in the DMCA Compliance Team's educational DMCA course, and successfully complete a quiz about Copyright Infringement with a score of 100%.
- Deliver a signed Compliance Verification Form to the DMCA Compliance Team, attesting that all of the requirements described above have been met.

- Student will be referred to the Office of Student Conduct to determine further consequences.
Special Notes
- Student may file a counter notification in response to any given notice, which will be reviewed by the DMCA Compliance Team.
- The TechHelp Service and Repair Center, located in Tri-Towers, can verify that a student's computer has been cleaned of offending material(s) and that file sharing software is either disabled or removed.
