Kent State University is being recognized for the eighth time as a “Great College to Work For” by The Chronicle of Higher Education, a top trade publication for colleges and universities. Now in its 10th year, the “Great Colleges to Work For” annual report recognizes the colleges that get top ratings from their employees on workforce practices and policies.

The Chronicle released its 2017 results on July 17, based on survey responses from more than 45,000 people at 232 institutions (155 four-year private and public colleges and 77 two-year colleges). Kent State is one of 79 colleges and universities to receive this prestigious designation. For a fourth year in a row, Kent State is the only Ohio institution, public or private, on the list. Other four-year universities similarly rated include Duke University, Florida International University, Hofstra University, University of Michigan and University of Southern California.

“Kent State is one of the largest university systems in the nation, yet one of the closest families in the world,” said Kent State President Beverly Warren. “With a students-first commitment, faculty, staff and students pursue their passion and purpose within and across disciplines to better our society. A vibrant wellness, arts, athletics and host-community culture make it a great and unique place to work.”

The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institutional audit that captured demographics and workplace polices, and an anonymous survey administered to faculty, administrators and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback. Kent State was recognized in the Compensation and Benefits category for large universities with 10,000 or more students.
