Biography

Peter Bobkowski received a doctorate in mass communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. For the last 12 years, he has held appointments as assistant, associate, and full professor in the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas. In addition to this experience in higher education, he spent seven years teaching and advising student publications at the high school level.

He has published more than 30 research articles and book chapters on journalism education and young people’s media practices. His peer-reviewed work has appeared in Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Journalism Practice, Journalism and Mass Communication Educator, College & Research Libraries and other scholarly journals. He is an award-winning teacher with experience across a wide range of journalism and media courses, from first-year seminars to graduate-level research methods courses. He is the co-author of a free online textbook on information sources, Be Credible: Information Literacy for Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising and Marketing Students.

He is an active member of the scholastic journalism community, with experience teaching summer workshops, presenting at conferences, judging contests, serving on the board of directors of the National Scholastic Press Association, and chairing research competitions in the Scholastic Journalism Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC). His sustained service to scholastic journalism has been recognized with the Pioneer Award from the National Scholastic Press Association, the Gold Key from Columbia Scholastic Press Association, and the David Adams Journalism Educator of the Year award from the Scholastic Journalism Division of AEJMC.
