Yes! As with most collegiate marching bands, non-music majors comprise the majority of our membership. In recent years our enrollment has included students from almost every degree plan and department on the KSU campus.
Everyone planning to participate in the marching Golden Flashes must complete an audition prior to preseason band camp to be considered for band membership. While the goal is to allow as many members into the band as possible, the auditions are meant to check basic level skills. Click here for specific audition requirements.
Enrollment is very simple. All you have to do is add MUS 45222 to your class schedule when you register for Fall classes. One hour of course credit is awarded for participation. Course registration is required for band membership.
While many students use their own instruments, the Marching Golden Flashes provide some instruments for the following instrumentalists: tenor saxes, baritones, sousaphones & drumline.
Members of the band are only required to purchase certain parts of their uniform and accessories. In most cases, the annual costs for these are no more than $100 and are often much less.
KSU students who will be living on campus will be allowed to move into their residence halls during the first day of band camp. Students living off-campus will need to make their own arrangements for move-in at their respective residences.
