Parking and Transportation
What are parking and transportation accommodations?
Parking and transportation accommodations are intended to provide access for students with disabilities that impact their ability to utilize existing parking or transportation options on campus. All students who bring a car to campus are responsible for adhering to all parking requirements and permit restrictions. Students who have a state disability placard should contact Parking Services to get a designated Kent State disability placard to park on campus. When disability-related needs cannot be met using existing transportation resources, such as the campus bus route, state disability placards, and PARTA SATS, a parking accommodation may be appropriate.
Students whose disability substantially impacts their ability to navigate campus should consider the following:
Kent State students can utilize PARTA campus bus service free of charge with their Flashcard. PARTA has several campus loops that also service nearby off-campus apartment complexes.
Eligible students should apply for a state disability placard whenever possible. Students who have a state disability placard should contact Parking Services to get a designated Kent State disability placard to park on campus. More information here.
SAS may request documentation establishing the student’s diagnosis rises to the level of a disability and why existing resources are not adequate to meet the student’s needs.
Parking accommodations
Parking accommodations are intended for students whose disability substantially limits their ability to use their designated parking lots on campus and who are not eligible for other types of parking assistance. This accommodation is not intended to be a substitute for a state disability placard.
Parking accommodations are determined based on access needs related to a disability and do not guarantee the most convenient or closest parking option. SAS parking accommodations are limited to two categories: residential parking (for residential students only) and on-campus parking (for commuter students).
- Students must have purchased a permit to be eligible for a parking accommodation; SAS may ask for verification of purchase.
- SAS determines eligibility for parking accommodations; implementation and enforcement are coordinated by Parking Services and are subject to campus parking policies and availability.
- Residential parking requests are reviewed each year, and updated documentation may be required.
- On-campus parking requests are reviewed each semester, and updated documentation may be required. Students who need to park at or very close to their academic buildings should use the state disability permit process. SAS cannot ensure parking accommodations at selected buildings or specified lots.
- Students are responsible for contacting SAS to request renewal of parking accommodations and for notifying SAS of any changes to their access needs.
Temporary parking accommodations
Parking Services provides a temporary parking permit for up to four weeks for students with a temporary injury.
SATS Door-to-Door Transportation
This accommodation is appropriate for students whose disability interferes with their ability to utilize standard PARTA bus routes to navigate campus. Eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis by SAS and is shared with PARTA SATS each academic year. Students are responsible for contacting PARTA to schedule their rides and for following all relevant policies and procedures set by PARTA.
