2026 Zassenhaus Groups and Friends Conference

2026 Zassenhaus Groups and Friends Conference

The Zassenhaus Groups and Friends Conference

Kent State University, May 30 and 31st, 2026

Mathematics at Kent State Stark

The 2026 Zassenhaus Groups and Friends Conference will take place at
Kent State, on May 30 and 31st of 2026. The conference was initiated
by Professor Hans Zassenhaus in the middle 1960's and is currently
held on an annual basis. On odd numbered years it is held at
Binghamton University.  On even numbered years it is held at different
locations.

Following Prof Zassenhaus's tradition, we will welcome talks at all
levels; and while the main and central topic of the conference
continues to be groups, we are open to closely related topics like
loops, lattices, and more.

While there is no deadline for registering to attend, the deadline to submit an abstract is Friday, May 8.

The conference banquet will be at 6:00 pm on Saturday May 30 at Laziza's in downtown Kent.  The banquet will be buffet style that will include beef, chicken, and vegetarian options.  The cost includes soft drinks and tea and coffee.  The banquet will cost $60 per person.  Please sign up for the banquet by Friday May 22 so that we can have an accurate count.

Kent State University is the highest-ranked public university in
northern Ohio on the Top Public Schools and Best National Universities
lists by U.S. News & World Report. Kent State also holds the esteemed
distinction of being one of only five institutions in Ohio to be
recognized as an R1 top-tier research university by the Carnegie
Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.

Kent State University is ideally situated in Northeast Ohio. Located
just six miles off I-76, our campus is easy to find and accessible from
neighboring Akron/Canton and Cleveland airports. Kent State's 953 acre
campus can also be reached by car, shuttle and public transportation.

The Mathematical Sciences department offers a wide variety of courses
and degree options in mathematics and applied mathematics at the
Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. levels.

Kent State also offers a Bachelor’s degree in actuarial mathematics, and
a Master’s degree in data science (offered jointly with the Department
of Computer Science).  Its Ph.D. program is one of six mathematics Ph.D.
programs in the Ohio public university system. The actuarial mathematics
program is one of only four in the Ohio public university system to
receive the UCAP–Advanced Curriculum designation by the Society of
Actuaries.

The Zassenhaus Groups and Friends Conference

Archive

Before 2015, the Zassenhaus Group Theory Conference merged with the Ohio State-Denison Mathematics Conference in even-numbered years, with the group theorists meeting in the odd-numbered years at various locations around the country. The even-numbered year conferences held in Ohio originally included group theory, ring theory, and combinatorics (areas in which Hans Zassenhaus was active).
