Celebrating a Decade of Art

The School of Art celebrates ten years in the Center for the Visual Arts with a benefit auction.

Over the past decade, the Center for the Visual Arts (CVA) has served as a hub for artistic inquiry, creative growth and community engagement. As Kent State’s School of Art celebrates ten years in the CVA, we honor the artists, educators, students and supporters who have helped shape its success.

The School of Art will be hosting The Benefit to Celebrate 10 Years in the Center for the Visual Arts on Saturday, November 13th from 5-8 p.m. This event brings together students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members while celebrating the work created in the groundbreaking facility. Attendees will be able to enjoy a complimentary reception and can participate in the silent auction, accompanied by live music provided by students of the Glauser School of Music. The Benefit will take place in the lobby of the CVA, 325 Terrace Drive in Kent, Ohio.

Featured auction pieces include “Shimmering Streams: Sinuous Rhythm II,” by professor emeritus and renowned artist Janice Lessman-Moss, as well as “Summer 2022 #5” by alumnus Hildur Jónsson. A curated selection of works from alumni, faculty, and emeritus faculty will be priced from $500 to $5,000, while small works donated by alumni and friends of the School of Art will be priced from $50 to $499.

Proceeds from this benefit will directly support the School of Art Fund to help sustain and enhance the facility for future generations of artists and students. “It’s my pleasure to invite you to be our guest at this exciting event, where you will have the opportunity to support the mission and students of the School of Art and our broader community by viewing and purchasing original artwork from our esteemed faculty and alumni,” said Interim Dean Jillian Sokso. “Your support and participation are foundational to our future work together, and I look forward to celebrating with you and all members of our generous community!”

Attendees will be able to purchase a VIP Preview ticket for $50, granting early entry to the event from 5–6 p.m. The early entry provides priority access to purchase artworks in the auction at a “Buy It Now” price. Free General Admission begins at 6 p.m. The silent auction will conclude at 7:30 p.m., and attendees can take their purchases with them at the end of the evening.
