5 Ways to Flash Forward to Success
YOU’RE THE STAR!
In order to find the best college for you, you’ll need to explore your wants and needs.
Try asking yourself the following questions:
- What types of careers interest me?
- What kinds of learning experiences interest me?
- What do I like to do for fun?
If you’re like most students, you may have struggled to answer the first question. Don’t worry!
Many of our students don’t know what they want to study when they start at Kent State. We'll help you explore our 350+ programs of study and find the right one for you!
TURN TO YOUR SUPPORT SYSTEM
Next, take time to speak with your friends, family and school counselor, especially if they are a Golden Flash! With 38,000+ students in our eight-campus system and 257,000+ alumni worldwide, everyone knows someone from Kent State!
Try asking them the following questions:
- Where did you go to college?
- Why did you choose it?
- Would you choose it again?
You may be surprised by how much information you can learn this way!
START DOING YOUR OWN RESEARCH
College websites are a great place to start gathering information. Look for webpages called "Academics," "Life at KSU" and "Undergraduate Admissions" for helpful information when getting started.
For your convenience, Kent State University's Admissions Office is also on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Be sure to follow us on your preferred social media platforms!
FLASH’S RULE OF THREES
Now that you have put serious consideration into what you’re looking for, it's time to start scheduling campus visits!
If you follow Flash's Rule of Threes and visit each type of college, you'll feel more confident about what's the best combination for you. You may even be surprised by what you like (and dislike) once you start visiting.
Flash recommends that you visit colleges of all three distances from home, sizes and settings:
Distance — ▢ Short | ▢ Medium | ▢ Long
Size — ▢ Small | ▢ Medium | ⚡️ Large
Settings — ▢ Rural | ⚡️ Suburban | ▢ City
BECOME FRIENDS WITH YOUR ADMISSIONS COUNSELOR
You have an assigned personal admissions counselor based on your region and high school. Your personal admissions counselor is your go-to person at Kent State, devoted to helping you find the place where you belong!
We highly recommend that you save their contact information and call, text or email your personal admissions counselor whenever you have questions.
