Yvonne M. Smith, Ph.D., APRN-CNS
Dr. Smith’s research focuses on curriculum and instruction in nursing education. She is currently developing an instrument, the Online Teaching Effectiveness Scale (OTES), to more accurately understand and measure online teaching effectiveness by nursing faculty. Development of the OTES builds on her previous mixed methods research exploring nursing faculty perceptions of experiences, strategies, and intensity while teaching in the online environment. Nurse leadership is another emerging research area for Dr. Smith, and she is also developing an instrument to study service by nurse leaders on governing boards. She is particularly interested in evaluating how nurses influence learning and practice-related outcomes through board service and organizational participation, and she has participated in self-studies of teaching practices as a qualitative research methodology.
