Porthouse Theatre 2016 Season Available Roles

Porthouse Theatre seeks actors between the ages of 30 and 60+ to fill specific roles in the productions of Sister Act and Footloose for the 2016 Season.

Preliminary auditions are Saturday, February 6, 2016 from 10am - 6pm at Kent State University's School of Theatre and Dance in Kent, OH.

Specifically looking for the following roles:

Sister Act

Mother Superior: The head of the convent, sarcastic and a bit stiff. Extremely protective about keeping her sisters away from the outside world, which puts her in direct opposition to Deloris and her musical teachings. Age: 50 to 70. Vocal range top: E5. Vocal range bottom: D3

Monsignor O'Hara: One of the heads of the convent. Constantly concerned with financial matters, though soul music surprisingly puts him in a different mood. Age: 45 to 60 Vocal range top: G4. Vocal range bottom: E3

Curtis: A club owner, notorious gangster, and Deloris's boyfriend. Cocky and controlling, always on the verge of violence. Age: 30 to 40 Vocal range top: Ab4. Vocal range bottom: A2

Eddie Souther: The desk chief at the Philadelphia police station and a high school classmate of Deloris who helps get her into hiding. Faces a lot of nerves when under pressure, causing him to sweat profusely. He still yearns for Deloris after all these years, and dreams of being her hero. Age: 25 to 35. Vocal range top: B4. Vocal range bottom: Ab2

 

Footloose

Reverend Shaw Moore: Charismatic and charming.  Shaw has a quick mind, a loving heart, and a sense of humor, all of which endear him to his congregation. While trying to be strong for so many people, however, he continues to mourn the death of his son---the one person he could not save.  Shaw if the father of a teenage daughter.  Age range:  40’s-50’s.

Vi Moore: Despite the loss of her son and the strained relationship with her husband, Vi fully understands the kind of unflagging good humor she must display to keep her household, and her husband’s congregation, running smoothly.  And with her plucky irreverence, she gives us a glimpse of what life with Shaw was like before the tragedy.  40’s– 50’s.

Ethel McCormick: Ren’s Mother.  He get his intelligence, resilience, and good humor from her.  Its hard for Ethel to be living in her sister’s home and abiding by her brother-in-laws rules, but she never succumbs to the pathos of the situation; after all she has to be strong for Ren. Late 30’s – early 50’s.

Lulu Warniker (doubles as betty Blast):  Ethel’s sister.  30’s – 40’s

Wes Warniker (doubles as Cowboy Bob):  Lulu’s husband.  30’s-40’s

Coach Dunbar:  The High School gym teacher.  40’s-50’s

Eleanor Dunbar:  the coach’s wife and head of the city council.  40’s-50’s.

Principal:  Authority figure. 40’s-60’s
