About

The Anti-Racism and Equity Institute was established with the goals of advancing and promoting scholarship, education, and engagement that address problems associated with racial inequality and injustice. The Institute commits to:

  • An honest account of the connections between the historic nature of racism, its contemporary manifestations, and the associated inequities that are systemic in our institution and society.

  • The creation of a space and structure that brings together researchers, educators, and partners from disparate areas of the university and community.

  • The promotion of anti-racist scholarship and creative activity produced by Kent State University faculty and practitioners through access to funding and collaborative opportunity.

  • A strong emphasis on public involvement, with a focus on creating synergy between the university and community to highlight and engage connections between discovery and action.

We acknowledge that the Anti-Racism and Equity Institute at Kent State University is located on lands previously occupied by people of the Shawnee, Seneca-Cayuga, Delaware, Wyandot, Ottawa, Miami, Kaskaskia, and Erie tribes. We pay respect to their past and present.
