Gifts to this program help to support the Meindl Distinguished Scholar Award, which is a scholarship for Junior, Senior, or Graduate Students majoring in Anthropology. Dr. Meindl served as Chair of the Department from 1991-2015 and his friends, colleagues, and former students created this annual student award in 2022 in recognition of his lasting contributions to anthropology education at Kent State University and beyond. Monies beyond the scholarship are used to support research and educational priorities within the Department.

Gifts to this program honor Emeritus Professor Dr. Mark F. Seeman's love of Archaeology and focuses on the study of past human cultures. These funds directly support active archaeological research in the Department, including, but not limited to, laboratory or field equipment, computer software or supplies,  travel to primary archaeological field or museum sites, and off-campus analysis.

Gifts to this program directly support graduate student research projects in the Department.

Gifts to this program honor Assistant Professor of Anthropology Dr. Robert "Bob" Patten. Dr. Patten was a colleague and dear friend with Dr. Metin Eren and was a world-renowned flintknapper. These funds directly support research related to experimental archaeology, lithic technology and replicating techniques, and related work, either within the field or the classroom.

This fund supports a scholarship for an Anthropology undergraduate major in their junior or senior year or a graduate student majoring in Anthropology. Funds are directed towards tuition and fees.

Gifts to this program honor Norman Zalewski who served in the U.S. Army and later graduated from Kent State University majoring in Anthropology. This scholarship was created by his wife of 60 years, Beatrice "Anne" Zalewski, who also graduated from Kent State University, to honor Norman's memory and his interest in anything that touched mankind. These funds directly support undergraduate students in Anthropology, preferably with an interest in pursuing graduate studies in anthropology or archaeology, and can be used to cover expenses such as tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, and travel costs.
