Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics

About

The Departments of Chemistry & Biochemistry and Physics at Kent State University provide excellent educational, research, and pre-professional experiences for undergraduates. The faculty have active research projects and encourage undergraduate participation in cutting-edge, hands-on projects. Students gain valuable knowledge and skills and leave prepared for advanced study (Ohio State University, University of Cincinnati, NEOMED) or careers in industry (Arconic, Nestle, Cooper Tire, Hikma Pharmaceuticals, GOJO, ExonanoRNA).

The COF program leaders host monthly meetings with its scholars to discuss strategies for academic success, to learn more about STEM career opportunities, and for research presentations. Scholars are encouraged to become actively engaged in research and other work-based learning experiences. This program has successfully mentored students for four years. Four scholars participated in research in each of the past two years, two scholars presented research at conferences, and two scholars participated in summer research experiences supported by the National Science Foundation. One student recently graduated from our program and entered into the Pharm.D. program at NEOMED.
