The Center has recently provided Technical Assistance to the following communities and audiences:
  • State Water Policy Makers - On June 2, 2009 Director John Hoornbeek, Ph.D., in conjunction with other Ohio Universities sponsored a forum in Columbus, OH, on water infrastructure and the needs currently facing governments.

  • State and Federal Environmental Officials - Dr. John Hoornbeek, Ph.D., and Graduate Researcher Sayantani Satpathi presented the Center's Total Maximum Daily Load report to water quality officials representing six states in Red Wing, Minnesota on April 22, 2009. Dr. Hoornbeek also presented the report to Ohio EPA officials in Columbus, OH, on May 7, 2009 and U.S. EPA officials in Washington, D.C., on May 28, 2009.

  • Fund for Our Economic Future - The Center hosted the Fund for Our Economic Future on March 26, 2009, as they unveiled their EfficientGovNow initiative to area officials. 

  • Non-profit Organizations - The Center compiled a wage and benefit survey for a nonprofit corporation looking to create two new positions. Using similar businesses as reference points, the Center was able to recommend competitive wages and benefits for the unique positions created.

  • Stimulus Funding - The Center hosted an ICMA University audio conference on March 19, 2009, giving an overview of the recent $787 billion Federal Stimulus Package covering the guidelines, eligibility requirements and process to access the stimulus funds.

  • Village of Windham - On April 4, 2009, the Center facilitated and proctored a promotional exam for the Village of Windham Police Department for a full-time police officer position. The Center through an agreement with the International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA-HR) has become an official facilitator for IPMA exams.

  • Center for Public Service at Texas Tech University - On Feb. 17, 2009, Dr. John Hoornbeek served as an external expert to assess the services provided by Texas Tech's Center for Public Service.

Past Projects have included:
  • Maple Heights - City Council Retreat - The Center facilitated discussion of team-building, drafting of vision mission statements for the municipality, along with prioritizing goals and strategic planning for 3-5 years.

  • South Russell - Orientation for the Mayor and Council members on roles and responsibilities of elected officials in a statutory village.

  • Hosted a group from Croatia in conjunction with Cleveland State University - The group was in the U.S. seeking to learn about ways to plan and deliver certification programs to groups of local officials.

  • Gates Mills - The Center conducted a study of safety services to determine whether the village should maintain their current system or make changes to provide better service to the community.
