The 13th edition of American Public Policy: Promise and Performance has recently been made available for widespread use by CQ Press, a Washington DC based division of Sage Publications. For this edition of this widely used American Public Policy textbook, John Hoornbeek, PhD, a Faculty Affiliate of the Center for Public Policy and Health, has joined Dr. B. Guy Peters, an Emeritus Professor from the University of Pittsburgh, as a co-author. Over the past year and a half, Peters and Hoornbeek have updated this textbook to include events and issues addressed during the Biden administration and the first weeks of the second Trump administration. Karan Lamba, a recently graduated Master of Public Health (MPH) student in Kent State University’s College of Public Health, provided valuable assistance with multiple aspects of this work. He and his work are acknowledged in the book’s Preface.
American Public Policy: Promise and Performance is available through Sage Publications’ website (https://collegepublishing.sagepub.com/products/american-public-policy-13-287791). It includes seventeen chapters, many of which address subject matters that are relevant to public health. For example, the 13th edition includes chapters on Health Policy, Energy and Environment, Social Security and Welfare, and Social Issues and Public Policy that may be of particular interest to students of Public Health. The textbook is available in electronic and softcover formats. Instructor resources relating to the material covered in the book are made available by the publishers for college and university instructors to help enable the book’s use in academic settings.
