KSU x Immobileyes Design Challenge: The Ninja Throwable Light

Immobileyes Inc., an Advanced Optical Technology company, is developing multi-colored LED devices that can temporarily distract a potential threat such as an active shooter. The NINJA, a “throwable” light device, is a new product that police can use to light up a space before they go in. The goal of the system is to cause temporary visual disruption, giving law enforcement additional time to react.
The Challenge
Student design teams will work with KSU Police and Immobileyes, Inc. to create an innovative design for the NINJA (a throwable, light-emitting device) that can be used by law enforcement before entering a space.
The NINJA can have a number of LED, optical and electronic components. There are some restraints on the design (overall size, LED power, battery size and optical elements) while other parameters can be changed and optimized. Importantly, there is no restraint on the overall shape of the device. In fact, any design that looks distinctive and different from anything else out there is welcome and encouraged.
- Phase I (3 weeks): 3D design- Students engage with KSU police and Immobileyes mentors to understand the customer needs and design the exterior /interior of the device.
- Phase II (6 weeks): Prototype construction- Student teams make a working prototype based on their winning design.
