Biography

Sonya E. Irving is an associate professor of mathematics education in the School of Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Studies. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Middle Childhood Education, Early Childhood Education, Adolescent and Young Adult Education, and Curriculum & Instruction. She also partners with local schools to host Family Math Night events and to support teachers in the development of curricular materials. Dr. Irving joined the KSU faculty in 2013. She earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2014), her Ed.M. in School Leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education (2007), and her undergraduate degree (B.B.A.) at Howard University (1997). Her interests include equity in mathematics education and pre-service teachers’ conceptions of teaching and learning mathematics.
