The Write Place

The Graduate College is offering the Write Place! Join your fellow graduate students for weekly writing accountability groups. The sessions will be held from 12-3 p.m. on Tuesdays in University Library 314. In collaboration with the Writing Commons, a  Graduate Writing Consultant will be present during every session to assist students as needed. Students are welcome to join whenever they are able!

Graduate Career Peer Drop-In Hours

Spring 2024 Graduate Career Peer Drop-In Hours Flyer

In partnership with Career Exploration and Development, we are excited to offer Graduate Career Peer Drop-in sessions. These sessions are a way for you to get help with quick questions about programs and careers, resume and cover letter critiques, accessing and navigating Handshake, increasing your networking skills, learning interviewing tips, and more!

Sessions will be offered on Thursdays in University Library 314 from 12-3 p.m. Join us as your schedule allows and know we are here to help you with all of your career needs!

Each drop-in visit will typically last about 10-15 minutes. You are welcome and encouraged to attend multiple drop-in sessions throughout the semester.

FlashPitch Competition

We are hosting the fifth annual FlashPitch Competition – a 90-second elevator pitch competition for graduate students. Participants will gain experience in:⁠

  • Presenting research to an interdisciplinary audience
  • Developing critical elevator pitch skills in order to clearly communicate your research in networking situations, at conferences and in the job market
  • Delivering a pitch on your research agenda, research interests or a specific research project

In addition to gaining valuable experience, graduate students will be competing for cash prizes!⁠ FlashPitch Competition registration will close on Friday, March 15, 2024.⁠ For more information please visit the Graduate College website.

CTL Teaching Recognition Awards

The objective of the teaching development awards program is to recognize actions that enhance teaching and learning at Kent State University. The program allows instructors to earn tiered awards (bronze, silver, gold & platinum) for their efforts to learn about, implement, evaluate and investigate evidence-based instructional practices.   All instructors at Kent State, including graduate students and faculty of all appointment types (TT, NTT, adjunct) are eligible to participate. More information about these awards can be found on the Center for Teaching and Learning website.

Data Science Speaker Series

and administrators representing the Kent State University System that convene regularly to discuss opportunities to advance education and research on data, methodology, and statistics.

Join them for a panel on Science Literacy and Data on Wednesday, March 6 from 4-5 p.m. in 1018 University Library.

Panelists include Vinay Cheruvu, Ph.D. Associate Professor, Biostatistics, College of Public Health, Jennifer Roche, Ph.D. Associate Professor, Speech Pathology and Audiology and Learning Sciences, College of Education, Health and Human Services and David E. Silva, Ph.D. Assistant Professor, School of Communication Studies and the School of Emerging Media and Technology, College of Communication and Information.

The panel will focus on science literacy and data including but not limited to how data science can be used to study and advance science literacy. Active participation is encouraged. Please bring your questions and thoughts. This series is free and open to the public.

Ohio Academy of Science

Ohio Academy of Science Logo

The Ohio Academy of Science is accepting abstract submissions until March 12, 2024 for the annual meeting and symposium to be held at Kent State University, Kent campus on Saturday,  April 6.

The symposium will bring together researchers from colleges and universities across the state and is an opportunity for all researchers (undergrad, grad, and faculty) in STEM fields to present their work.

Join the Division of People, Culture and Belonging for “Dialogue and Difference: A New Understanding.” This is a year-long initiative which will engage the Kent State community and advance our core values of freedom of expression, respect and kindness in all we do. 

The Division of People, Culture and Belonging is partnering with the School of Peace and Conflict Studies and the Division of Student Life to deliver this series of educational programs that features diverse perspectives and aims to help us better understand each other.

LGBTQ+ Spring 2024 Event

Join the LGBTQ+ Center for "Navigating College as a Student Holding Multiple Marginalized Identities" on April 17 from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Kent Student Center KIVA. At Kent State University, there is both a formal and informal process. Please use the flowcharts as a reference whenever you are in need. These can be found on the Graduate College website as well.

Flashes Food Pantry

Spring 2024 Pantry Times

The Flashes Food Pantry will be available by appointment on Tuesdays and Fridays from 3-5:30 p.m. The pantry will be taking walk-ins from 5:30-6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays. For more information, visit the CARES Center website.

Counseling and Pyschological Services (CAPS) Workshops

Spring 2024 CAPS Workshops

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is pleased to share with you the Spring 2024 workshop and group offerings. This semester they'll continue to offer the same workshops as last semester, plus two new workshops:

  • Navigating Social Spaces is a 4-session skills series that addresses concerns such as social anxiety, dating, making social connections, and loneliness. Students can come to as many or as few of the sessions as they wish.
  • Therapeutic Journaling is a 1-session workshop that teaches students how to use journaling to better understand themselves and their lives.
