Updates to the FlashLine Portal Continue

Since last summer’s debut of the new, redesigned FlashLine, the feedback from the Kent State community has been extremely beneficial. Students, faculty and staff have continued to provide valuable insight regarding their thoughts on the new portal.

The My Dashboard feature has been well-received for its customizable features, and users who have pinned items to their My Dashboard rely on it often. The new search function, unavailable in the previous version of FlashLine, was one of the most exciting things about the redesign, and has become the fastest way to find anything within the portal.

IS has continued to deliver new features and improvements post-launch, that were largely driven by feedback from the Kent State community. Since July, IS has implemented a revised top navigation, the ability to set a default landing page, a collapsible left navigation, and added icons on the My Dashboard page, all based on user feedback. Other additions include improved search functionality and the ability to add custom bookmarks on My Dashboard.

In conjunction with these improvements, the portal team also releases minor updates every two weeks that focus on enhancing performance and user satisfaction.

Future FlashLine updates are in development, with a focus on usability and accessibility. The portal team is currently conducting usability testing with a list of new features they are looking forward to introducing soon. These features include:

  • More search enhancements
  • Dashboard enhancements
  • A-Z keyword index
  • Condensed view options
  • Page sort options
  • Registration window countdown
  • Faculty grade assignment indication
  • Improved notifications
  • Updated ‘My Profile’ view

The FlashLine team encourages all students, faculty, and staff to continue to provide input via the feedback button in FlashLine. The portal will continue to improve and evolve as we gather more feedback from the Kent State community. Look for these new features and more to be released throughout the spring semester.
