Building your online course
This self-paced, asynchronous, online session is for Kent State faculty who have taken Designing Your Online Course, and would like to build their course design in Blackboard Learn. Through completing hands-on activities, faculty participants will build one complete module from their course design, and leave with the knowledge and skills to build the rest of the course. Faculty will learn best practices for creating and implementing content, using Bb tools for assignments, and much more. Activities will take approximately 40-60 hours to complete, and feedback and guidance will be given by an Educational Technology Designer.
Designing Your Online Course
This is a self-paced, asynchronous, online session for Kent State faculty who want to design or re-design an online course that they are teaching at Kent State. This session covers the essentials of an instructional method that works well for online courses and supports Quality Matters standards. While this workshop is not about Blackboard Learn, participants will leave having designed at least the first four modules of their online course, and can then continue on to the Building Your Online Course session to construct their course in Bb Learn. Activities will take approximately 40-60 hours to complete, and feedback and guidance will be given by an Instructional Designer.
Maximizing Success in the Online Classroom
This four-week, facilitated, fully online, asynchronous workshop for Kent State faculty dives deep into the most salient issues in online learning and teaching, including: the changing role of instructors and students, creating an online learning community, promoting active learning, developing engaging assignments, managing faculty time and workload, and more. Faculty participants are asked to immerse themselves in the online community of the workshop, and participate in online discussions, group projects, and individual activities.
Online Teaching Orientation and refresher
This self-paced, asynchronous online session is designed around essential online teaching topics and practices, and is perfect for both new and experienced online faculty. Participants will explore and discuss pertinent topics such as: creating and maintaining teaching presence, student accessibility considerations, classroom management techniques, collaborative group learning, online assessment tools, and more. Faculty will also complete selected applied practice activities that they can then use in their current and future online courses. This session will take approximately 40-60 hours to complete, and feedback and guidance will be given by a Kent State Online instructor.
