State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA)

Kent State University participates in SARA, which allows the university to offer most online and on-ground educational activities in 49 SARA member states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.

Non-SARA States

California does not participate in SARA. The California Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education does not regulate out-of-state public institutions. Therefore, Bureau approval for Kent State University to offer educational activities in California is not required.

NC-SARA (National council for state authorization reciprocity agreements)

Kent State University is approved by The Ohio Department of Higher Education to participate in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA).

NC-SARA is a voluntary, regional approach to state oversight of postsecondary distance education. By participating in NC-SARA, Kent State University has reciprocity to offer online programs to residents in other NC-SARA states.
