How to Access Training

All training is self-paced and delivered via Canvas. Browse courses designed to help you create effective and engaging online learning experiences.

When you select a course, you will be redirected to Canvas and prompted to log in using your FlashLine credentials. Once logged in, click “Enroll in Course” to be added.

You can begin the training immediately or access it later from your Canvas Dashboard.

Online Teaching

Course Design & Planning

  • Explore the framework that focuses on learning goals as the foundation for course design. Learn how to create specific, measurable outcomes and discover the importance of alignment.

  • Identify methods and types of assessment you can use to measure achievement of course learning objectives while considering various assessment types, templates, and grading criteria.

  • Select learning materials, such as readings, videos, handouts, web resources, etc., that students will need to succeed on course assessments while keeping alignment and other considerations (copyright, rigor) in mind.  

  • Create a learning path for your students by structuring your course into specific units, or “modules,” considering length, sequence, module-specific outcomes, introductions, and summaries.

Building Your Course in Canvas

  • Get started building your course by importing the Kent State Online template, updating your home page, adjusting your course navigation, and sharing welcoming course information in helpful ways. 

  • Discover how Modules and Pages can be used to create a learning pathway that is clear, consistent, and easy to navigate, while presenting course learning materials such as text, images, readings, videos, links, etc. 

  • Explore the basics of how to create assignments, discussions, and quizzes in Canvas, and how to add them to modules, adjust settings, and create and associate rubrics.

EXPLORE AT YOUR OWN PACE

Looking for information on a specific topic or a resource that you can review as time allows? Explore courses at your leisure based on interest. Browse and review relevant information and resources. Find topics most pertinent to you and apply those strategies to your courses. 

GUIDED PARTICIPATION

Depending on your learning goals, you might choose a more in-depth approach incorporating optional activities, personalized feedback, and support. Choose courses that are of interest to you. Review the course learning materials. Check your understanding by completing the Knowledge Check Quiz. Put course topics into practice by completing the Practical Application Activity. Discuss how you might incorporate this new knowledge into your own online course during a 1:1 consult with a member of the Online Learning Team. 

Teaching Award

In collaboration with the Center for Teaching and Learning, the Bronze Teaching Recognition Award recognizes learning evidence-based practices for instruction and developing a plan to use them.

To be considered for this award: 

  1. Review the course learning materials. 
  2. Complete the Knowledge Check Quiz. 
  3. Complete the Practical Application Activity. 
  4. Participate in an Individual Consult with a member of the Online Learning Team.

Once you have completed steps 1-4, submit your application for the Bronze Teaching Recognition Award. You will be notified once your application has been reviewed!
