Jane Chu speaking to President Diacon

The Art of Possibility

Former National Endowment for the Arts Chair Jane Chu joins Kent State President Todd Diacon to explore how creativity strengthens communities and shapes the human experience.

In the latest episode of the ToddCast, Kent State University President Todd Diacon welcomes Jane Chu, former chair of the National Endowment for the Arts, for a thoughtful conversation about arts entrepreneurship, the hard work and discipline inherent within the arts, and the different ways that it can manifest in a wide range of careers.

Chu shares her personal journey from artist to arts administrator, highlighting the importance of ensuring that all communities — urban and rural — have opportunities to experience and participate in the arts. Throughout the discussion, Chu and Diacon reflect on how creativity fuels innovation, strengthens shared identity and can serve as a bridge during divided times. Their conversation underscores Kent State’s own commitment to arts and design programs that help graduates make an impact in their communities.

Chu visited Kent State on Sept. 9-10, as part of the Thomas Schroth Visiting Artist Series. During her campus visit, Chu led two free public presentations, “Artists as Leaders” and “Artists as Entrepreneurs.” Chu’s visit also included interactive sessions for students and faculty on exploring funding and leadership opportunities in the arts.
