University Libraries will provide opportunities for Kent State University students to shake off stress during finals week.

University Libraries will hold its semiannual Stress-Free Zone on Monday, May 8, and Tuesday, May 9, from 3-5 p.m. in the Garden Room on the first floor of University Library. The event is open to all Kent State students, faculty and staff.

The No. 12 Kent State University men’s golf team won its 24th Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship on April 30 at the Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.

The Kent State Golden Flashes finished the four-round tournament with a score of 3-under par 1,149 (287-288-285-289), breaking its own four-round tournament record for team score. Kent State won the tournament by 25 strokes, defeating second-place Ball State at 22-over par.

Gift to endow Fashion School chair and support study-away program for students

Kent, Ohio – May 1, 2017 – Kent State University has received a $2.5 million gift for its Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman School of Fashion Design and Merchandising from the Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation of Hudson, Ohio. The gift will fund two initiatives: $1.5 million to endow a chair to support the Fashion School’s director and a matching grant of up to $1 million to support the study-away program benefiting fashion school students.

Kent State University held its 47th annual commemoration of May 4, 1970, with events taking place May 3 and 4. The annual commemoration, hosted by the May 4 Task Force, provides an opportunity for the university community to gather and remember those who were lost and injured during the tragedy and also reflect on what May 4 means today.

Kent State University Health Services and the health departments of the City of Kent and Portage County have recently become aware of confirmed mumps at Kent State University - Kent Campus. Our community's health and safety are our top priority. All appropriate measures, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, were followed.

Kent State University holds its 47th annual commemoration of May 4, 1970, with events taking place May 3 and 4. The annual commemoration is hosted by the May 4 Task Force, a student organization on campus. All of the events will be held on the university’s Kent Campus and are free and open to the public.

The protected prairie surrounding Kent State University’s Student Recreation and Wellness Center will be burned on Wednesday, April 26, at approximately 10 a.m. to allow for new growth during the summer season.

The city of Kent Fire Department will conduct the burning of the prairie, which has been a yearly practice since 2004. Burning of the prairie on April 26 is dependent on the weather and the Kent Fire Department not being out on a run.

A Kent State University summer program that teaches foreign languages to high school students has received federal funding for the 10th consecutive year.

Professors Brian Baer, Ph.D., and Theresa Minick of Kent State’s Department of Modern and Classical Language Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences received two grants totaling $180,000 to host the 2017 Regents STARTALK Foreign Language Academy at Kent State.
