Controlling Environmental Tobacco Smoke in Ohio - A Modern Public Health Success Story
Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026
1 p.m.
to 2 p.m.
Join the College of Public Health for a special guest lecture by Susan Jagers, Executive Director of the Association of Ohio Health Commissioners, and a leader in the Smoke Free Ohio campaign, during the Introduction to Environmental Health and Safety course.
Her efforts, along with those of others in the campaign, led to the enactment of the Smoke-Free Workplace Act in 2006 by ballot initiative. At the time, this was one of the most comprehensive environmental tobacco smoke control policies in the U.S. and a singular public health achievement for us in Ohio public health. Jagers will tell the story of this successful campaign in her lecture as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of this event.
