MEDIA ADVISORY: More Than 450 Students From 10 Northeast Ohio Counties to Showcase Research, Compete in 2026 Regional Science Day at Kent State

WHAT:
More than 450 students in grades 5-12 from public and private schools and homeschools will exhibit science projects and compete in the Ohio Academy of Science’s 2026 Regional Science Day on Saturday, March 21, at Kent State University. Participating students are coming from 10 counties: Ashtabula, Columbiana, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Mahoning, Portage, Stark, Summit and Trumbull. Science projects developed by the students cover a wide range of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) topics, ranging from cancer to artificial intelligence to environmental projects to space.

Members of the media who come to the Regional Science Day can:

  • Capture visuals of the science fair taking place in the Kent Student Center.
  • Talk to participating students about their interest in science and their research.
  • Check out the Resource Fair from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on the third floor of the Kent Student Center in the Ballroom Balcony.
  • Enjoy an electronic microscope demonstration starting at 9:30 a.m. or 10:45 a.m. in the Advanced Materials and Liquid Crystal Institute.
  • Tour the Design Innovation Hub while on a STEM scavenger hunt from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
  • Hear closing remarks and watch the awards ceremony with Ohio Academy of Sciences CEO Michael Woytek from 2:45-3:30 p.m. on the second floor of the Kent Student Center in the Ballroom.
