Whether you’re looking for a quick evening activity, roaring crowds or somewhere to meet new friends in general; an event by the Flash Activities Board (FAB) should be your first stop at Kent State University.
FAB usually has a couple of events a week, ranging from lower-stakes outings like trivia or karaoke to annual festivals like the Black Squirrel Festival, which will have its 44th occurrence this month.
“I really enjoy the community here at Kent State,” said FAB President Elizabeth Pomarico. “I feel like everything that Kent State does is driven by community building and in my role in FAB I get to help with that all the time by planning events that people can come to and hang out with their friends.”
Pomarico, a senior majoring in applied mathematics and French, is one of the organization's 10 board members and has been involved with FAB since her first year on campus.
Students can get involved with FAB by attending their events as a participant, or by volunteering to help the organization run them.
Starting as a volunteer, Pomarico worked her way up to event staff, vice president and finally president.
“Being a part of a student organization on the Kent Campus has really helped me to stay engaged here at Kent. I come from a small town like two hours away and didn't have any friends coming into the university, so being a part of an organization has helped me make friends, has helped me build a community and stay engaged here on campus,” added Pomarico when talking about the importance of student organizations.
