Team Kent State Leads University Challenge Competition

Perhaps it was the university kickoff event at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center, where Kent State University employees participated in tug of war, archery and rock climbing, among other things.

Or it could be the University Challenge Game Board created by Employee Wellness to encourage faculty and staff to “boost” (support) colleagues and win prizes for mini pop-up challenges, such as holding standing or walking meetings.

Or maybe it is the Healthy Fall Recipes submitted by, and shared within, the Kent State community.

Whatever the reason, with just two weeks remaining in the national On The Move University Challenge, Team Kent State still holds the top spot in the standings with Plymouth State University a close second, followed by Northern Arizona University in third place.

“I think Kent State’s success in this challenge can be attributed to a combination of things,” says Kim Hauge, Kent State’s director of employee wellness. “Our employees approach these competitions with dedication and determination to succeed through vigorous exercise, a healthy diet, teamwork and comradery. Regardless of where we finish, I’m extremely proud of our sustained effort.”

Indeed, during the second week of the 12-week competition, Team Kent State vaulted to the top spot on the leaderboard and never looked back, owing its success to a mix of learning, assessing, boosting, sharing and moving.

The collection of favorite recipes were part of the healthy fall recipe pop-up challenge, one of the many “mini-challenges” that had been created along the way, and part of the new game board created to supplement the challenge. Stay tuned to see if Team Kent State gets a first-place finish in the University Challenge. The competition concludes Dec. 24.
