From Honors Student to Tour Guide: Broadcast Journalism Senior Featured on WKYC’s Unzipped Series

Cleveland's Channel 3 Highlights The Various Attractions of Kent, Ohio

Phillip Grant Jr., a Kent State University honors student and Kent native, recently served as a tour guide for WKYC’s Danielle Wiggins as she explored all that the Tree City has to offer as part of WKYC’s Unzipped Series.

The series highlights the unique features of the cities and locations throughout Northeast Ohio region.

Mr. Grant, 22, a broadcast journalism major, grew up in Kent, and knows his way around town from popular restaurants to the most frequented recreation spots.

“Kent has really changed throughout the years,” Mr. Grant told WKYC’s Ms. Wiggins.

An eight-year construction project that resulted in a redeveloped downtown, helped to connect the city with the university, its largest establishment.

“Kent’s so diverse and that’s what I really love about it,” Mr. Grant said. “You could take the same route to class every single day and you’ll meet somebody different.”

Mr. Grant, an honors student, left Kent to play division two basketball at another university out of state. However, his love for his hometown and his mother’s cooking brought him back to his roots.

“I’m glad I grew up here,” he said. “It taught me a lot and I’m excited for the future.”
