Aeronautics and Engineering

About

Recognizing the need in the state of Ohio for engineering and manufacturing, especially as it relates to aerospace and aviation, Kent State University committed to creating the College of Aeronautics and Engineering (CAE) six years ago. The state of Ohio is ranked second of all states in Aerospace Attractiveness, is the number one supplier of manufactured aerospace components and systems and is ranked fourth in the number of aerospace engineering jobs. CAE supports workforce development that will enhance Ohio’s dominant role in aerospace and aviation even further. Investment in the college is reflected in the university's Master Plan, which includes the FedEx Aeronautics and Academic Center at the Kent State University Airport, serving the Professional Pilot program; the 40,000 square foot expansion of the existing Aeronautics and Engineering Building.

The engineering, engineering technology and aeronautics programs produce forward-thinking professionals who are in-demand for the aviation, engineering and manufacturing industries in the state of Ohio. The state has continued to invest in aerospace, aviation, and unmanned aircraft systems. These represent tremendous growth areas for the state of Ohio and the country. Enrollment of new students in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering grew 52% in 2019 and almost 7% in 2020, despite the impact of COVID-19. CAE has an established track record of providing experiential learning for students via industry internships, undergraduate research, and work opportunities in the dispatch and weather operations at the university airport. Currently CAE provides approximately $2.8 million in scholarships to its students. This growth demonstrates the demand for these programs, as well as the opportunities for recruitment.
