A Celebration of Kent State's International Students

A home game event at the MAC Center featured students from around the world and a win by the Golden Flashes

Tuesday was “International Night” at Kent State University’s men’s basketball game at the MAC Center.

The event celebrated the cultures of Kent State students and student-athletes from all over the world. Nearly 1,300 students, from more than 100 countries, are currently enrolled at Kent State and the number of international students attending the university continues to grow.

Students from Brazil make up one of the largest student populations on campus. This comes as a result of The American Academy (AA), a dual-enrollment program offered jointly by Kent State University and the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUCPR), located in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil.

Celebrating international students

In this video, some of Kent State's international student-athletes share their countries of origin, their favorite foods from home, favorite songs and also send greetings in their native languages.

At the half, students participated in a parade of flags around the court.

Hani Alotaibi, a graduate student in Kent State's translation studies program carried a Saudi Arabian flag in the parade and said that it was the best event he had ever attended.

Kent State's Office of Global Education is responsible for attracting and admitting students to the university as well as assisting them in getting here and supporting them when the arrive. OGE also oversees all education abroad initiatives (with programs in more than 60 countries) and international partnerships.

In the game, the Golden Flashes faced, and outscored 81-69, the Chippewas of Central Michigan to remain undefeated at home.
