A demonstration on the K and a vigil for the fallen marked a day of gatherings across the Kent State University Kent Campus Thursday, five days after violence erupted in Israel and Gaza.
Students for Justice in Palestine gathered with members of several other student organizations calling for the liberation of the people of Palestine. About 40 people attended the event, which lasted just over an hour and included a march to the Rock.
Kent State Today spoke with the group's leader about the event and the message the group was hoping others would hear about the people of Palestine.
A few hours later, a vigil was held near Hillel on Summit Street.
The vigil included voices from the Jewish students, the singing of the Israeli national anthem and a brief discussion on supporting those affected by the war.
Near the end of the service, Kent State Today spoke with one of Hillel's student leaders about the message of the service.
On Tuesday, Kent State President Todd Diacon issued a statement urging the campus community "to practice and follow our Kent State core values, including kindness and respect in all we do, coupled with a commitment to the freedom of expression."
The president also noted resources available to the entire campus community during these volatile times.
