The Secret Is Out: Kent Named 1 of Zillow’s Top 2 College Towns for 2023

Several Northeast Ohio towns, including Kent, have made it to Zillow’s 2023 list of most popular markets

The home base for Kent State University was named among the top two college towns in the U.S. (defined as a city with at least 20% of the population enrolled in higher education) by online real estate platform Zillow, coming in second to West Chester, Pennsylvania.

Among the list of Top 10 most popular markets on Zillow this year were two other Northeast Ohio locations: Twinsburg (where the Kent State Twinsburg Academic Center just happens to be located) and Stow, a neighboring community to our beloved college town and home of the Kent State University Airport. Vermillion, Ohio, was named the most popular vacation town.

Kent’s recognition on Zillow's list further confirms that sticking around Northeast Ohio can be a wise investment for students post-graduation. Zillow spokesperson Mark Stayton told Crain’s Cleveland Business that “relative affordability has been a prime driver of demand” when it comes to real estate searches in 2023. This article from Kent State Today shares more data on why Ohio, and Kent specifically, offers some of the lowest cost-of-living options in the country.
